I just tried to submit a question about importing XAVC video into FCP 7 and got a notice that I am “not able to post or create this content.”

Can you explain why?

Thank you.

I keep getting the ".fcpcache.tmp couldn’t be removed" message? Anyone know a fix?

I had an FCP library that was taking up way too much space on my computer, so I copied it onto a hard drive then deleted it from my mac. Now, in Final Cut, I’m getting a popup saying, “Some storage locations for the library, ‘—,’ are unavailable.” I’m not the smartest computer guy, but I assume that means that my computer can’t access the library because it’s changed locations from my mac to my hard drive.

The popup gives me three options (as well as drop down menus so you can change the locations of your media, cache, and backups).

1. Connect to the storage location and click Check Again.

2. Set new storage locations for the library.

3. Click Close Library.

It doesn’t appear as if I’m able to do any of those. Choosing any new locations just gives me the message, “.fcpcache.tmp couldn’t be removed.” Any idea how I might fix this? Or what it even means?

Duplicated cut has disappeared from project…

Hey everyone.  Been cutting a project on FCPX for several weeks now.  My usual work flow is to duplicate the project every once in a while in order to preserve progressive “drafts” of my cut.  This works well for me.  Until my most recent attempt.  Several days ago, I duplicated the latest cut and began further refining my edit.  I finished for the day and revisited my cut today.  But unfortunately, the most recent version of the project is completely absent along with all the work I did.  Additionally, there’s an “exclamation point” sign over the event folder containing all my various project drafts.  Has anyone ever experienced this?  Trying to figure out if there’s a solution.

Thanks

iMac Intel Quick Sync

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anybody here is using Final Cut Pro X on a newish iMac that supports Intel Quick Sync.

I have a MacBook and with Final Cut Pro X Quick Sync does work for encoding to H264, but this MacBook does not have a dedicated GPU, only the integrated Intel Iris.  I know with my PC a monitor has to be connected to the integrated video display in order for Quick Sync to work.  So I am wondering, if the new iMacs have dedicated GPUs, are they still able to use Quick Sync (from FCP X)?

Cheers

Exporting as Master File vs. Apple Devices 1080p

What’s the difference between exporting a 1080p project as a Master File vs. as Apple Devices 1080p?

I’ve done a test by exporting the same project as both. They look identical to me, and they are 5.64GB vs. 5.12GB in disk size, respectively, in other words, a small difference.

Is there any technical reason the Master File might be superior, since it’s the slightly higher file size?

Is it possible to add synced audio from a compound clip to a regular clip in the timeline?

I just finished manually syncing audio to clips with no scratch audio to create compound clips. I already have a cut of my project edited in the timeline that contain no audio. Is it possible to add the audio from the compound clips in the browser to the already edited clips I have in the timeline and keep all of my edits and audio in sync? Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

How can I make jpegs imported into the timeline fit the video frame?

I am working on a Mac book pro. Running Yosemite10.10.5

I’m using Final cut pro x 10.2.2

When I add jpegs to the timeline to create a stop animation effect they do not fill the frame.

I tried transform. and that worked until I played back and they reverted to original size.

What can I do to reconcile to the video frame. and at what point in the chain of actions.?

Thankyou

Geoff

Importing from a mini dv tape

I am importing from a mini dv tape into iMovie for now as I have FCP on my new mac but not the old.  I need to get this video into my old mac via a 4pin to 8pin firewire – which worked.  However, I wanted the 45 minute video brought in as one whole clip.  Instead, somehow it read a bunch of date and time stamp info from each clip that was placed into the original video and when it brought the clip in, they are in a jumbled order.  I have over 250 clips.  I went into iMove to change the order of clips by date and time, but when I built this highlight video – it was pieced together from multiple sources from multiple dates in 2001 and 2002.  I want to bring the whole video in as ONE clip.  Then, I can bring it into FCP on my newer mac.  Any suggestions would be great.

How can I get MPEG-2 video into Final Cut Pro X?

Hello!  I have several MPEG-2 video files on which I need to perform some edits.  When I tried to import them into Final Cut Pro, I learned that Final Cut Pro can’t import MPEG files.  Okay, so I went into QuickTime and exported one as 720p.  20 minutes later, I had a video that I could load in FCP.  Awesome.  Except that when I watched the video, the audio was waaaaaaaay out of sync.  So, is there a different way I could get this MPEG-2 video into a format that FCP will like while keeping video and audio together?

I would keep trying a few different things without direction, but these videos are like 90 minutes long and the conversion process is lengthy.

Thanks!

Exporting files from Library?

$

Kind of an off-beat question here, really hoping someone can help me.

Every once in a while, when importing footage, I’ll be in such a hurry that I’ll accidentally import the footage right from the memory card into a new FCPX event. The clips will formulate in the library (as expected), and then I’ll be able to edit them. I try to catch myself before I do this but (sometimes) I’m in such a rush that I miss the step of physically taking them off of the memory card, putting them into a folder on my HDD, and then importing them into my library. So the only ‘source files’ I know of would be in the actual library panel for the FCPX program.

Anyway – I have a friend of mine who’s requesting some files that I filmed about 9 months ago. I don’t have that footage on my memory card anymore. They want to make a little snippet of an engine being built. I have all the files in my library within FCPX, able to be viewed and edited, but I’m unsure if there’s a way that I can go find these source files. Are they stored somewhere on the computer? Or is there a way I can export all the files from my FCPX library somewhere so I can have those raw files sitting in a folder I can send to him? Otherwise, I may have to export each clip one by one, and there are 130+ clips.

Lesson learned! Lol. Won’t do that again.

Thanks for anyone who can provide even the slightest of help!

Having trouble copying FCPX Libraries to Drobo

Around six months ago I set up a new Drobo 5n to store my husband’s Final Cut Pro X Libraries.  Then we took our old Drobo FS and made it a synchronized backup of the new Drobo using Chronosync on a Mac mini.  This worked for quite a while.  We recently updated the Mac mini to El Capitan.

We started having a problem where the destination machine (old Drobo) was filling up.  We figured out the culprit, the destination versions of the .fcpbundle libraries were on the order of TWENTY TIMES the size of the source bundles on the new Drobo.

We scraped the old Drobo and started over with Chronosync and it happened again.  The old Drobo got so full that we were unable to even access it to delete things.

I did an experiment after resetting the old Drobo – I simply tried to drag a .fcpbundle Library from the new to the old.  It showed me a progress bar of 7000’ish files “preparing to copy” for quite some time and then came back and said an unexpected error occurred (code -50).  I did this on a different Mac, which is also running El Capitan.

Note that I can drag folders of audio, photos, text files from New to Old Drobo without any issues.

So…is there a trick to moving Final Cut Pro X Libraries that changed in the last six months or so?

thanks!

Shape Element – The shape seems to clip before reaching the edge of the FCP X frame

I am trying to use an Element Shape to emphasize something in a graphic. I have done this before with no real problem but now that is not the case. I create something like a simple rectangle and position the shape where it is needed. As I move the shape the edge that is closest to the frame seems to just clip and disappear underneath the graphic. The rectangle shape is placed on top of the graphic in the project. Why is it clipping? The image below is an example. The circlet in the middle of the orange shape shows that the right side is clipped off and you can see the I am not even at  the right edge of the frame.

Thanks,

Jefre

Audio set to ‘stereo’ but when shared, only audio comes out of one earphone? Youtube meme ‘my left ear enjoyed this’

Hey everyone!

Video example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC2G7jUr4J0

So my videos are being played onto via one ear when earphones are plugged in and I’m getting a wave of comments about it. When I did some research, I found that the audio is already set to ‘stereo’ in final cut pro. This makes me think that it’s a fault with my audio technica microphone but since it’s too late, can anyone teach me how to create audio that will produce in both earphones/channels?

Thank you so much in advance! I’ve done heaps of research and nothing quite out there is the same as my situation!

Cheers,

Lisa

Multi-Clips, Consolidated Clips, and 4k.

$

I’m editing a short doc (shot in 4k) that got a little messy due to the camera guy cutting the cam multiple times. Instead of having one continuous clip to sync up with the second cams clip, I’ve had to consolidate the first clip to avoid having to Multi-cam several clips of the same clips. Once all the clips are consolidated and multi-cam’d, I have laid the final MC clip on the timeline. Here is the QUESTION… If I want to zoom-in to reframe the clip, will it still be effecting the 4k clip, or the new 1080 consolidated/multi-cam’d clip? If so, do I need to go all they way back in to the original clip to do the zooming?
